das Café

Vienna, 7th District

The Café (formerly the furniture) has a special place in my heart, so it makes sense that it is the first big recommendation on my blog. I went here for the first time about three years ago, when I was visiting my future university and didn't know much in or about Vienna. I can still remember that it was pouring and I was definitely not prepared for that. Looking for "shelter" somewhere, I ran into the first café that was open. Completely wet, with no idea what district I was in or if I would even make it back to Salzburg, I Immediately felt like home. All the rush fell off me and I chose a cozy armchair in the almost empty café.

In terms of decoration and ambience, a lot has changed since then. That first time, I had the feeling that the café had just opened. Somehow there were few tables and chairs and the young people working there seemed a bit lost. Turns out the café has been around for over 20 years now. So maybe they were just redecorating back then? When I started living in Vienna and went back there, the café had really gone through a glow-up. With the same charm, but even cozier, it immediately had potential to become my favorite café.

By now I know Vienna quite well and Burggasse has some of my top locations, but the Café is like a second living room and definitely has the best chai latte in town. The best thing is that you can spend the whole afternoon there with a drink or cake, without having to constantly reorder something or getting even the slightest hints that you should leave already. The café charms me every time I go.

What you can expect...

The Café has a cool interior, you can even buy the furniture! You get great coffee, tea and other drinks, amazing cakes, yummy snacks, popsicles and also a variety of drinks. Coziness and being chill is an unspoken motto here. I probably wouldn't come for a quick coffee. But if you have some time, you will not want to leave.

What I always get...

Of course my beloved Chai Latte (4€) is a must. Also the gigantic "Holler Sodas" (3,60€), so elderflower soda, is good. Also be sure to check out the cakes, there are fresh and incredibly good creations every day (about 4€). My favorites are definitely the fudgy brownies and the peanut butter cheesecake! I can also highly recommend the hummus plate (7,20€).

Summary

The Café is a place that invites you to relax. Whether for a chat with friends, a productive study session in a nice atmosphere or just for people watching: you will feel right at home.
